Kirkland Fish Oil Supplements

Kirkland Fish Oil is one of the most popular fish oil producers on the Earth. Their fish oil supplements are produced from many different species of deep, cold water fish aimed at maximizing the concentration of omega-3 fatty acids. All of their products are guaranteed to be distilled using a state of the art molecular distilling process that filters mercury, PCB’s and dioxins, and are guaranteed to have less fish odor than other fish oil products on the market today. The health benefits of fish oil have been generally accepted as being essential to human growth and health since as far back as the 1930s. This knowledge has increased tremendously since that time, starting with the discovery of the Greenland Inuit Tribe in the 1970s. Researchers discovered that this population of Eskimos, who consumed large fat amounts in their seafood diets, displayed almost no cardiovascular disease. This was attributed to the that fact the fish oil reduced their levels of triglycerides, heart rate, blood pressure and atherosclerosis.

The public as a whole is fortunate that these researchers continued to their exploration of the fish oil benefits because they are widely accepted by even the medical community today. The Food and Drug Administration (the “FDA”), recently gave fish oil and qualified health claim and stated that “supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA [n-3] fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.” This is great because the FDA does not usually speak on the topic of fish oil since it is listed as a nutritional supplement rather than a drug. As such, many medical providers, including family doctors and physicians, are recommending fish oil supplements to their patients.

Docosahexaenoic acid (“DHA”) and eicosapentaenoic acid (“EPA”), both of which are also known as omega-3 fatty acids, are the primary reason for fish oil nutrition related benefits. They are commonly referred to as “essential fatty acids” and play a tremendous role in basic human development, growth and over all health. However, because they cannot be formulated by the human body, they must be consumed in our diets, the primary source of which is by eating fish.

Despite the common belief that fish are able to manufacture the omega-3 fatty acids in their systems, that belief is incorrect. In fact, like us, fish must consume these essential fatty acids in their diets. They do that by one of two methods. First, fish can eat microalgae as part of their diets and they are then accumulated in their tissues. Second, predatory fish can get omega-3 fatty acids by eating the other microalgae eating species of fish.
