Quality Fish Oil Supplements
Quality fish oil is the subject of many recent research
studies, most of which are looking to confirm recent media reports touting the fish oil benefits. It is widely
accepted, that the best natural places to obtain omega-3 fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid (or "EPA")
and docosahexaenoic acid (or "DHA"), is various species of cold water, oily fish. DHA and EPA have been shown to be
a huge benefit to human growth and development, as well as reducing the likelihood of cardiovascular disease,
preventing the painful symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (such as joint pain and morning stiffness), and lowering
high blood pressure.
The health benefits of fish oil are
amazing and smart shoppers will purchase fish oil to take advantage of them. Of course, like anything else,
there are some things you should do prior going out to purchase fish oil products.
Primarily, you should
understand the benefits of buying fish oil
supplements instead of consuming a lot of fish. The main reason for this is the fact that
many of the Earth's oceans, lakes and rivers are contaminated. There are many industrial and environment
pollutants such as heavy metals (i.e., mercury, nickel, cadmium, arsenic, and lead), and fat soluble chemicals
(i.e., PCB's and dioxins), that have made their ways into these water sources. Accordingly, the tissues of many
species of fish have become contaminated as well. It is obvious, then, that if you consume fish that is
contaminated, the risk of experiencing heavy metal toxicity is significantly increase. Purchase quality fish oil
pills, such as pharmaceutical fish
oil supplements, can solve that problem as pollutants and chemicals are filtered and
screened, at a molecular level, to remove these impurities from the fish oil pills.
Next, one of the worst
fish oil side effects
associated with some fish oil products is the horrendous fishy aftertaste. Quality fish oil supplements are
enteric coated fish oil softgels. In a nutshell, enteric coating is a "shell" on the fish oil pills that are
able to withstand being dissolved in the stomach and, instead, are not dissolved until they reach the small
intestine. Not has research shown that this increases the fish oil potency by up to three times (as compared to
when it is dissolved in the stomach), it eliminates the problem with the fish burps and that awful fishy
aftertaste.
Finally, quality
fish oil pills will have more
omega-3s than filler content. The easy way to determine the amount of filler contained in the fish oil pills is
to compare the total volume of the fish oil product with the amount of omega-3 fatty acids they contain. The
balance of the fish oil supplement is considered "filler." The best fish oil supplements are manufactured with
very little filler and is considered high potency fish oil.
